100% fun in the heart of the Zillertal
Within reach of every important attraction and rich in things to do itself – that is the picturesque foothill village of Kaltenbach. Tune in to its easy-going atmosphere, fill your lungs with Alpine air and set out for something out of the ordinary, surrounded by real Tyrol.
Kaltenbach in winter: the holiday on the slopes you dreamed of
The linked Hochfügen-Hochzillertal ski area is the best skiing in the Zillertal. In the centre of Kaltenbach, board a modern cable car and ride up to 2,500 metres above sea level for excellent snow conditions. You will enjoy them on the pistes of Hochzillertal and on the open freeride terrain in Hochfügen. If you have children with you, they will also enjoy an adventurous toboggan ride down the snowy chute into the valley. Take a break over a hot soup, at the well-known Kristallhütte mountain hut for example, and in the afternoon stretch your legs with a proper cross-country skiing outing. Your only company will be glittering white slopes and endless Alpine peaks.
Kaltenbach in summer: fun high up and on the ground
In Kaltenbach, join the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse, one of the finest Alpine mountain roads, and head up towards Hochzillertal and its many mountain trails for walkers and bikes. Stop on the way at Murmelland Zillertal, where animals eager to be stroked and a fantastic natural playground wait for children. For a little more adrenaline, take them to the well-known rope park in Kaltenbach, whose heights and views will make your head spin. At the KABOOM centre in the village itself, absolutely everyone can let off steam – keen parkour fans, skateboarders, dancers, skaters and climbers. You only have to choose.
Accommodation in the area
Its central position makes Kaltenbach an ideal base for exploring the Zillertal, and it offers a wide range of accommodation. Book a room in a Chalet – a luxury mountain lodge – in one of the local hotels, or in a friendly family Pension. The local hostels will win you over on price and quality, as will camping Hochzillertal, where in summer you can park your car in comfort.
Local food and drink
The local inns and restaurants serve Tyrol on a plate. Delicious Zillertal filled pastries, excellent Kasspatzln cheese Spätzle, or a hearty Tyrolean Grösstl with potatoes and pork on onions. Add a wheat beer and the traditional culinary experience is complete.
